Kissa Kissa keeps the brief unusually tight: jazz only, vinyl only, full albums only. The Crown Heights room is built around a 5,000-record library, concentrating on the decades when the jazz kissa idea was taking its most recognisable form in Japan. The system is custom-built and audiophile-minded, though the bar sensibly does not turn the menu into a component catalogue. What matters is the programme: bop, hard bop, soul jazz, spiritual jazz, Latin jazz, vocal records, and more adventurous sides from the early 1950s through the late 1970s. No shuffle, no playlist, no requests. This is a relaxed room, not a silence-policed temple. You can bring a date or meet friends over a cocktail, then let a full Blue Note side have the time it needs.
